As professional recruiters, one of the services we provide to both our clients (and candidates!) is meeting as many candidates as possible in person for our clients. We also like to meet our clients in person. This helps us to get a better understanding of both our clients’ and our candidates’ needs and personalities so that we can make the best fit for both sides.

This, however, can be difficult if working on a nationwide search or even if working with a local candidate or client and you are dealing with busy work schedules and/or travel schedules. Welcome to Skype! We have started using this tool more frequently and although it is still new to some, it is extremely easy to set up and to use. Most often, we have been Skyping to meet our candidates in a timely manner when it might otherwise be impossible.

If your computer does not come with a camera, Logitech and other companies provide affordable webcams and other accessories as needed to get you started. My experience with Logitech was that the webcam was very easy set up. My computer at work did not have a camera – however, most of the newer computers do. Once you are set up, you are ready for your face to face interview or client call!

Check out www.skype.com. The download is quite easy and quick. Also, remember you do have to connect with the other person before you can video call.

Last tip – with a video call, the other person can see you, so it might be appropriate to get out of your PJ’s and put on a more professional top!!  Ha ha, but you would never be in PJ’s, right?
